Our top stories. The Israel Defence Forces said that it had launched an

air strike on Hezbollah's quote central headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon's capital, killing at least two people.

In an earlier speech before the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's Prime Minister, claimed that his country

was, quote, winning against Iran and its proxies in the Middle East.

He also vowed to continue fighting Hezbollah's, quote, terror army in Lebanon.

Mr. Netanyahu's office said that he would cut short his stay in the city to return to Israel on Friday evening.

More than 700 people have been killed in Lebanon this week,

according to the country's health ministry,

after Israel launched a campaign of air strikes against Hezbollah.

Iran's embassy in Lebanon said that the latest strike, quote, changes the rules of the game, and that, its perpetrator will be punished.

The Federal Reserve's preferred measure of annual inflation fell by more than expected

in August.

The year-on-year increase in the personal consumption expenditures price index was 2.2%

compared with 2.5% in July. The Fed, which recently cut interest rates

for the first time since 2020, set a target of 2 percent for PCE inflation.

America's Central Bank announces its next interest rate decision on November 7th.
