Okay, okay, so there's a new show coming out.

And now that the ball has gotten rolling, it feels like things are moving fast.

Casting and budget announcements, filming locations, filming dates, this show is very much a reality.

But with the introduction of a major addition to the Harry Potter series, we need to ask one

very big question.

Is it canon?

Will all the characters, places and storylines be a fully integrated and more importantly

accepted aspect of the Harry Potter universe. Let's take a look.

First things first, what is canon? In order to address this topic,

I feel that this first needs to be appropriately defined. In the context of fictional works,

canon refers to a collection of works that are considered to be authentic and produced by the

original author or authors of a particular series or universe.

The concept of canon in fiction is important in establishing and understanding the boundaries of a

particular universe or series and the extent to which subsequent works are considered to be part

of that universe. Simply put, if it wasn't written and or endorsed by the original author or creator of said work,

then it must be considered separately from that main body of work.

Anyone could write a book about Harry Potter, but that wouldn't make it canon.

It would just make it fan fiction.

However, this is where things get complicated.

A lot of fans like to, and rightly so, outright deny some Wizarding World publications.
