Summary

Last week, Harrison Faigen of SB Nation/Silver Screen and Roll joined the show, and we spent much of the show talking about Rob Pelinka, and the redemptive arc he's been riding over the last several months. On the one hand, he has unquestionably fixed the mess the Lakers were in. On the other, he was the one who created it. So how has Pelinka grown? Is he a different type of GM now than he was when he arrived in LA? Has he been humbled? Has he evolved? Is it a matter of gaining more confidence, so he's not trying as hard to impress? What's going on here, exactly? And how should Lakers fans feel about it going forward? This time, we explore Pelinkaville with Andy, who is back from vacation. Given the criticisms we've had for Pelinka over the years, it only seems fair to open the conversation at a time when things are going well, the future looks solid, too. So are we all at a point where we can say that Pelinka is a high quality GM? Or are circumstances just lining up well for him now? It's hard to argue against everything that's happened from the Rui Hachimura trade on, and for the first time he has a roster with balance both positionally and financially, including contract length. There is an opportunity to create something sustainable, no question. Finally, Stephen A. Smith was a guest on Paul George's (quite excellent) podcast, and was asked if there was something specific over the course of his career he wishes he could take back. His answer was one that might resonate with Lakers fans. HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: Has Rob Pelinka fully rehabbed his image? SEGMENT 2: Is Pelinka really a good GM? What is different about the guy now? SEGMENT 3: Stephen A. Smith apologizes for turning Kwame Brown into a meme before memes were a thing. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! 1:06.4

shows today and tomorrow leave us comments. A lot of people talking about the show we did for Wednesday,

1:12.4

kind of comparing the James Harden saga to the Kobe Bryant, summer of Kobe, Andy, the 2007, the hot summer of Kobe.

1:22.4

So we'll get into some of those comments over the course of the next couple of shows I think.

1:28.4

I want to talk a little about Darwin Ham and some comments he made about the caliber of the roster that we didn't get to for Wednesday's show.

1:36.4

So while you're on vacation, Andy, I had our friend, Harrison Fagan from Silver Screen and Roll SP Nation on the show, great guest, great guy.

1:46.4

And one of the things we ended up talking about was kind of a place where I really wanted to get your thoughts too because we ended up

1:56.4

spending a lot of time in Rob Polinka. And, you know, kind of what has been a redemptive, I don't know what is it eight months now, whatever it is since the trade deadline.

2:06.4

And even a little before that when you come bring it in Rui, right, I kind of put all that together. But yeah, I consider Rui sort of an early deadline move.

2:16.4

One of the things he's like the reception from Laker's fans for Rob is certainly a change.

2:28.4

I think like he's, he's, people are a little more enthusiastic about it, but we've spent a lot of time breaking down his tenure.

2:36.4

And I think it's a really interesting one. So I wanted to get your thoughts too on this, this idea of whether or not the last, you know, seven months, this Rui on stretch changes your perception of Polinka as a GM.

2:53.4

Yeah, we're all talking about like free agency grades and where the Lakers are going to like this is all related to Rob.

2:59.4

I would say potentially, if not definitively, like it's, I think it's still a bit of an open book, still a bit of an open question, but things are, if nothing else coming to light in ways that I think reflect really well on Rob Polinka.

3:18.4

Yeah, like the last seven or eight months, however you want to put it six months, I think have been the best work Rob Polinka's done since starting to run this organization.
