When it comes to American military spending, we are on track to allocate more than $920 billion in the next fiscal year, and it appears there’s bipartisan support to fully fund this Pacific Deterrence Initiative. The CDC reports an estimated 48,422 deaths from synthetic opioids, mostly fentanyl, in 2024. With a dangerous amount of the drug supply now laced with this deadly substance, overdose deaths are surging, especially among young people. President Trump recently signed the Halt Fentanyl Act, expanding law enforcement’s ability to crack down on traffickers.
