Hello again, I'm Arminolny, and this is To the Point from Public Radio International.

A daily look at the issues Americans care about most.

General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker have moved to the House side of Capitol Hill today

with the same message they had for the Senate. Progress has been made in Iraq, but it's fragile and

reversible, and it could be jeopardized by withdrawing too many forces too quickly. That sounded right

to John McCain, but Hillary Clinton and

Barack Obama have different ideas. On to the point, we'll get contrasting views on what

the next president will be faced with, like it or not. Can U.S. objectives really be met, or is it

all over? Is the military stretched too thin to meet other contingencies? What do the candidates have to say? First, here's the news.

but the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army says Iraq and Afghanistan are degrading U.S. readiness for other contingencies with significant risk to the all-volunteer force.

Today it's canceled more than 1,000, almost half its entire schedule.
