Subhead, the signal is being seen in Washington as a sign of restraint after

concerns that an Israeli strike on oil or nuclear facilities could trigger a

wider war. I welcome my colleague Jonathan Shanser, Senior Vice President of

Research at the Foundation for Defense of Democracy's watching this back and

forth between Washington and Jerusalem for more than a year now.

Jonathan, it is impossible to discern whether this headline is a product of negotiation,

intimidation, concern. of negotiation,

concern, what is the wider war that always shows up in Washington's anxiety?

This is, I would argue, a truly bizarre set of headlines and it has been for the better part of this war.

The Biden administration continues to try, I would say, unsuccessfully, to prevent a wider

war that has already erupted in the Middle East. We know this. We know that Iran is now fighting Israel on seven fronts. The

Iranians have shot 181 ballistic missiles at Israel on October 1st. We know that they fired another 300 or so missiles and

drones and rockets back in April. The Israelis finally have a green light to

respond. This is cleared by the United States, whereas last time back in April they were advised

to only fire one or perhaps a handful of munitions at one target. Now they are being given the green light to do much more, but the administration is still tying the hands of the Israelis. They're saying that they cannot strike oil facilities for fear of
