Summary

Most everybody has to work. Most everything has changed about work. Join Erika Badan -- CEO of Food52, former CEO of Barstool Sports and author of Nobody Cares About Your Career -- as she candidly navigates what’s great about work, what’s terrible at work, and what you need to know to make work, work for you.

You're about to hear a clip from the debut episode of Work, where Erika breaks down the realities of work, leadership, and career growth. She shares why she started the podcast, the importance of learning on the job, and why resilience matters in today’s workplace. From the dangers of revenge quitting to hiring insights and generational work-life balance debates, Erika keeps it real with unfiltered advice and guest perspectives. Also decoding corporate jargon, explaining the meaning of EBITDA, and reflections on the challenges of discipline at work.

Lemonada.

All right.

0:06.5

So welcome to the first episode of work.

0:08.8

This is my second podcast, but my first podcast post-Barshal Sports.

0:14.2

And the reason I wanted to create a podcast is, which is really a podcast actually.

0:18.7

So the reason I wanted to create content is that I think

0:21.9

there are too few women in work positions, big positions, little positions, doesn't really

0:28.4

matter, who are showing the struggle and the reality of what it's like to try to be great at work.

0:34.8

And this is a show that is about that struggle. It's about the trials and

0:39.4

triumphs of work. It's about work being tuition that you get paid for, which I'll get into in a

0:44.6

minute. And hopefully you can see just by looking at my calendar, it's a glimpse into what my work

0:50.7

life is like and what I'm trying to do here at Food 52, what I'm trying to do in the

0:56.0

board seats that I'm on. And also what I'm learning in the process, which hopefully can be

1:01.6

impactful or insightful or elicit a reaction for other people who are thinking about their

1:07.4

own career. So this is a podcast for anybody at work. It's especially for people

1:12.5

who care about making work make their life work. It's about people who want to use work as a vehicle

1:20.2

to be greater in their life, to have options they never had before, to have the means they hadn't

1:26.0

thought of before, to have skills they

1:28.4

hadn't developed for. And my hope is that by giving people some small, silly glimpse into my

1:35.2

life and my work, that it can prompt other people to take their work to a whole new level.

1:40.7

So that's what this podcast is about. So big shout out to Sarkik.

1:44.8

Sarthick is the brains behind the operation.
