Hey, COLD host Dave Cawley writing here. I’ve been listening to a new podcast called Stranger Becomes Neighbor - Afghan Arrivals. I’m excited to tell you about it, and I hope you’ll give it a listen. The story begins two years ago, when the U.S. scrambled to evacuate refugees from the Kabul airport as the Taliban took over Afghanistan. Around 80,000 Afghans soon arrived in America at a time when the resettlement agencies were critically low on resources. For the last two years, my colleague, journalist and host Andrea Smardon has followed some of these refugees, as well as the everyday Americans who have found themselves helping our newest neighbors. 0:15.8	Thousands of people rushed for the airport, desperate to escape Afghanistan, as the Taliban
0:20.7	returned to power there.
0:22.8	Then, suicide bombers attacked.
0:25.7	People died, both Afghans and Americans.
0:29.2	But memories fade, and I'll admit, in the years since, I've not spent much time considering
0:34.3	what happened to all those people who managed to get out of Afghanistan.
0:38.8	More than 80,000 of them are now in the United States facing the daunting task of starting
0:43.4	new lives in unfamiliar communities, maybe even your own.
0:48.2	And that crush of arrivals puts serious strain on the government agencies and nonprofits
0:53.5	that typically help refugees find new homes, jobs, schools, and everything else.
0:59.6	So what happened to these people?
1:01.5	Well, a colleague of mine, journalist Andrea Smartin has spent the past two years meeting
1:06.8	and following some of these amazing people.
1:09.6	She's put together a new podcast about their experiences.
