About the show: Since January 2022, more than a dozen of Russia's wealthiest businessmen have been found dead. One was poisoned with frog venom. One was found hanged on a handrail with his wife and children killed with an axe. Several fell out of high windows. Most of the deaths are suspicious. Russia says most of them were coincidental suicides resulting from depression. We have a theory though that something much darker is afoot.

Sad Oligarch is a modern true crime style investigative podcast series that looks into the many Russian oligarch deaths of 2022, unravelling a dark tale of Kremlin corruption and Russian political influence across the world.

0:00.0	In the space of a year more than a dozen rich Russian businessmen have died in either brutal or mysterious circumstances.
0:07.6	Many fell out of windows, some had heart attacks, and a few even killed their whole families before committing suicide.
0:16.3	The official line from the Russian authorities is that most of these deaths were accidents or violent consequences of mental illness.
0:25.5	Maybe that's true. But considering the majority of these dead rich Russians are either outright oligarchs or have other links to the Kremlin,
0:34.4	it's possible that something much darker is taking place.
0:38.6	These deaths have all occurred within the backdrop of the Ukraine war. A brutal invasion that is shown the whole world that Russia's president put in
0:46.6	is both ruthless and brazen. Maybe the Kremlin has been tying up loose ends or making examples of those who go against them
0:55.3	like several of the dead oligarchs did. For some, war can actually be bad for business.
1:02.7	This is sad oligarch with me, Jake Hanrahan. I'll be investigating the numerous strange deaths of these Russian businessmen.
