Summary

At 3:30PM on August 15th, 2016, a call came in to police in Bessemer City, North Carolina, that would set off a chain of events that shook the community to its very core. William Joseph McCullen, who was tasked with caring for his girlfriend’s three-year-old daughter, Jordyn Dumont, reported that she had gone missing. McCullen’s story was that he had put Jordyn down for a nap and then dozed off himself, only to wake up to an open front door and no sign of Jordyn. As detectives dug deeper into the case, it became clear that that Jordyn’s disappearance was only the tip of the iceberg… The investigation would expose a troubling pattern of neglect and abuse, raising serious questions about the role of law enforcement and social services and the devastating consequences that can occur when they fail to do their jobs.
