As I am about to discuss with debut author Kitty Murphy, she wrote a lovely and heartwarming

and entertaining mystery set in the world of drag queens in Dublin in Ireland.

Now, Kitty and I do not get into politics in our discussion, and I try not to get into politics

as much as possible on this podcast because you all are not coming to this podcast

for my political opinions.

Yes, it creeps in on a fairly regular basis actually because politics is a part of life,

but I do try not to approach political issues head on.

However, less to there be an elephant in the room while you're listening to this conversation,

I would like you all to know that it is a happy coincidence for me that I am airing this episode

about a mystery set in the world of drag when there is so much happening with this issue here in

the United States. Kitty and I actually corresponded many, many, many months ago.

These interviews are often as much as six months in the making, so I had agreed to read her book

long before any of the current laws in the US banning drag performances in various public forums

had been enacted or even close to enactment.

So I just want to be clear about that, that that as a coincidence, but I want to be equally clear

that for me, it is a happy coincidence because I myself am horrified by these laws.

One of them has been enacted in Tennessee thus far and there are others that are in danger
