I bring you a conversation with Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona. The Democrat has represented

Arizona since winning special election back in 2020.

We had an opportunity to speak to him back in the spring.

He joined us again this week to discuss a whole variety of things, including the government shutdown.

Democrats have been pushing for a negotiation for a deal to extend health care subsidies

for more than 20 million Americans on the Affordable Care Act on

Obamacare, saying they will not support funding the government or reopening the government

unless there is a provision there as well as funding for people on Medicaid. Republicans, for

their part, have been saying, no, no, no, it's time to fund the government. And then we can

discuss these Obamacare subsidies.

So that's where we began the conversation with Senator Kelly, talking about when this will end, if this will end.

And, of course, the increasing number of Americans who are going to be impacted by the government shutdown.

As soon as this weekend, when SNAP benefits are set to run out, that includes food stamps for millions of Americans.

And so we discussed that and whether the bet Democrats are making here is worth it. I ask him about what government

workers and people who are suffering right now are telling him. And what he says, he thinks it's
