Since the 1980s Dr. Lacovara has been involved in many noteworthy projects. Most famously, he led the project to identify and repatriate the mummy of King Ramesses I. My guest today is Dr. Peter Lacovara.

Peter Lacovara is an Egyptologist and archaeologist.

He completed his PhD research in 1993 at the University of Chicago in the United States.

His research priority was the city of Dier El Balas, a lesser known palace complex dating

to the late second intermediate period and the very early new kingdom.

We will discuss Dier El Balas and Peter's work there later in the interview.

But first, I want to talk about a specific person.

From May 1998 to September 2014, Dr. Lacovara was the senior curator of ancient Egyptian,

Nubian and near Eastern art at the Michael C. Carlos Museum of Art at Emory University

in Atlanta in the United States.

And as part of that tenure, Peter was involved in a particular project.

It was under Peter Lacovara's supervision that researchers from this university may have

identified the mummy of remissies the first, the Egyptian Pharaoh who established the
