Hey, Flamethrowers, Amir here, and I am thrilled, and I am thrilled to be joined in conversation today with Dr.

0:15.0

Dr. Myron Role, former FSU standout, and his journey from the NFL to Oxford as a road scholar,

0:23.4

although I think that was actually flipped in order. And then now as a neurosurgeon has been,

0:30.0

uh, a thing of wonder. Um, but it is not impossible journey, which we now know, um,

0:36.4

obviously through his work, but because we have

0:38.6

a new book that talks all about the journey and the lessons that Dr. Roll learned along the way.

0:45.6

So I am so excited to share in this space to chit chat about the book, the 2% way, and to talk

0:53.9

a little bit about this intersection of football and health care and

0:59.8

1:39.6

24-hour shift, I was leaving Mass General Hospital up in Boston. And, you know, she says, you know,

1:45.9

Maher, and I think you should write a book. And I said, whoa, I said, really? I said, I'm in the

1:50.3

dog gyms of residency. It's cold in Boston. No one wants to hear from me. They don't hear my story.

1:55.1

But she says, every time we go out to eat, every time we go somewhere, people come up to you and tell you how your story has inspired them.

2:02.3

And I remember when you told me that you read Gifted Hands by Ben Carson and that planted

2:07.2

the seed of neurosurgery in your mind. Now look at you. You're a neurosurgery. So maybe your story

2:11.3

can have that level of impact and inspiration on someone. So it was really my wife believing

2:16.5

in me more than I believed in myself. And as you mentioned,

2:19.5

my story had been told many times before, but not like this, where I'm able to be vulnerable,
