This show started its life almost exactly with that of a new premiership, a new prime minister, Liz Truss.

Now, day after day, we covered the ins, the outs, the highs, the lows, let's be

honest, mostly lows, of perhaps the most exceptional, literally exceptional premierships

in British political history. But through that time, inevitably, we didn't get to hear

in public anyway from people working inside the machine, inside Downing Street, inside that

cliche, the heart of government, as everything unraveled day by day. Well, on this episode,

we will. We'll hear from someone at length who was Liz Truss's speechwriter there for nearly

every one of those fevered days, who, like the rest of us, is left surveying the landscape,

picking up the political pieces. Someone who can guide us through what she was thinking and why.

We'll also, as we're getting close to the end of the year, assess where Labour is after a year

of poll leads after another thumping by election win last night, admittedly, in a safe

Labour seat. Now, as always, I'm not joined by either John or Emily on a Friday. Emily's singing

career, you'll probably have gathered is, finally taking off, so she signed up for a residency

at Caesar's Palace in Vegas. John's on piano. So instead I'll be joined on this edition of the
