Welcome to Breaking Down Patriarchy. I'm Amy McPhee All the Best. Today we will be discussing the book, Inferior, how science got women wrong and the new research that's rewriting the story, written by Angela Siney and published in 2017. And today I want to start off our discussion with a quote from the book about the author's own experience.

She says, quote, when I was promoting my first book, Geek Nation, I went to the city of Sheffield to give a talk.

women Nobel Prize winners? He asked, sneering. Women just aren't as good at science as men are.

1:30.3

So for myself, for my friend, for all of you listeners who have ever found yourselves caught

1:36.3

off guard and wondering how to respond when you hear about women's quote unquote proven

1:41.3

inferiority, today's episode will hopefully provide some sound bites to use

1:46.6

next time that happens. And I'm so excited to welcome to the program, Dr. Chantal Dolan. So thank you

1:53.5

so much for being here, Chantal. Hi, Amy. Thanks for having me. I'm happy to be here. So Chantal

1:59.6

and I are new friends. We are, we discovered we are

2:02.3

neighbors. We live really close to each other and have lots of friends in common and actually

2:07.9

lived in Palo Alto for several years. We have Stanford in common, a lot of the same interests and

2:13.6

loves. And it's been so great to get to know you, Chantal. And I'm especially excited to have you here as a scientist yourself because listeners know
