so today we're gonna share an episode from In Perfect Paradise, a return to Mexico, a show by our colleagues over at L.A.

The show tells a story of Danielle Samora, who remade his life after being deported from the U.S. to Mexico.

Throughout the series, we'll learn about Danielle's journey, from the time he spent as a teenager without his parents in Rio Blanco and then

coming of age in Los Angeles and Iowa and finally focusing in on his current life

in suadad Juarez as a retornado or returnee.

Hosted by reporter Lorena Rios, the show dissects the narratives around deportation as failure and the alternate lives that immigrants

leave behind and construct anew.

Back in 2021, reporter Lorina Rios traveled to Souda Guares

to meet up with a man named Daniel Samora

in a small cafe. And the place is tiny, super cozy, a little bit dark. So Danielle and I sat by the window so that we could get a little bit of light.

I wanted to meet Danielle because he's a retornado or returnee.

A reternee can be someone who either by force or by choice goes back to their country of origin after being a migrant somewhere else.

This is a global concept, but in this case, Lorina was interested in how return migration happens for Mexican

migrants between the US and Mexico.

I was interested in the returnee community from a journalistic standpoint.

But once I met Danielle and I started asking questions,

I realized that the questions that I had for him were questions that I had about my own experience of return.
