It's the 10th of August, and we have to start with the extremely sad news about the lead dancer from The Carman at Stadler's Wells, which I saw on Saturday.

I'd gone to bed without realizing that there had been a tragedy on Sunday, and that's Jonathan Olivier, 38, who was the lead dancer, who played the car man, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident, in Clarkhamwell, literally down the road from the theatre, literally hours before they were due to give the last performance and our

commiserations to everybody down there. Ironically, I'd only tweeted a matter of hours before

how brilliant the cast were. Whatever they were earning, I wrote, it's not enough. They put

their heart and soul into it. They're a fabulous company. Matthew Bourne, you know, really works them

hard and they repay him with giving stunning performances.

I don't think anybody could be less than proud of what Jonathan achieved on stage.
