catching everything, all the things that are not said is the most interesting thing about a scene, right?

Today's episode takes us behind the scenes of director Heidi Ewing's new drama, I Carry You With Me.

The film tells the story of Yvonne, a young aspiring chef in Mexico, who is working to support the mother of his child.

Yvonne begins an affair with a handsome teacher, who, unlike Yvonne, is out as a gay man.

After their relationship comes to light, Yvonne makes the painful decision to cross the

border to advance his culinary career, promising his son and newfound love that he will return.

I Carry You With Me is Ms. Ewing's feature directorial debut. Her other directorial

credits include co-directing the documentaries, Norman Lear, Just Another Version of You, Deutropia,

12th and Delaware, and Jesus Camp. Ms. Ewing spoke with fellow director Rodrigo Garcia

about filming I Carrey You With Me in front of a virtual audience.

You know, so many questions.

Like I said to you just before, you know, I like to go into a movie not knowing a thing about it.

And I think when movies work, it's really not only hard but unfair to feature one thing over another.

So, you know, but I will, just for the sake of this in particular, you know, what I found

particularly good about the movie and poignant is that it presents as one thing and then

it kind of turns into another thing in the best way.

And it's, it's, you say, oh, I know what this is.
