and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.

Hunter Biden was officially indicted today on two counts by special counsel David Weiss

for allegedly lying about his drug usage on a federal form when purchasing a gun in

2018.

He also faces one count of being under the influence of narcotics while using a firearm.

It's the first time a current or former president's son has been federally indicted.

Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy is working with members of his own party to craft

an agreement to continue funding the federal government to avoid a shutdown.

The government is set to run out of money on September 30th, but some members want McCarthy

to use the power of the purse to hold the Biden administration accountable for a litany

of issues.

McCarthy met with his conference today and afterwards spoke to the press.

Nobody wins in a government shutdown, but what we want to do is we want to be able to

win the policies that we've been fighting for and telling the American public.

We want to make sure our border becomes secure.

We want to stop the runaway spending.

We've been able to save quite a bit.

When the debt ceiling, we want to see the other places we can save here as well.

The judge presiding over the Georgia election case involving former President Donald Trump

has ordered that 17 defendants in the case be tried separately.
