As a little girl, I was given a beautiful doll named Lucy.

By my grandmother, she had long, curly hair and wore a frilly dress.

I immediately fell in love with her, but soon after I had Lucy, strange things began to happen.

I would wake up in the middle of the night to find she had moved from where I had left her.

And sometimes, I swear I could hear her whispering to me, though I couldn't make out what she was saying.

It was unnerving, and I soon stopped playing with Lucy altogether.

As I grew older, the occurrences became less frequent, and I chalked them up to an overactive imagination.

Then, many years later, when I returned home to visit, I found Lucy in a box in my old room.

I was flooded with nostalgia, and asked my mom for more information about her.

She said she had belonged to my great-great-grandmother, who had passed away when my grandmother was just a child.

I found that it was a common belief among many cultures that objects could be imbued with supernatural power or spirits,
