this is a talk I haven't given before so it's an experiment myself but I do think it's an

important topic you know the cartoons might illustrate that I mean we live in the Bay Area

and there's the Silicon Valley and everybody is thinking about artificial intelligence and

our computers taking over the world,

you know, and is, and what should we be thinking about that philosophically?

You know, what, what is that actually, what that we are looking at there?

And just to start with some examples.

So recently I talked to a student from UC Berkeley and there's this Kamea lab and they're

doing all sorts of things with brain implants and so forth.

There's some very good things about that which help you, for example, if you're paralyzed to bypass the nervous

system in your arms and so forth, and you can operate a laptop directly with an implant

in your brain.

From what I'm told though, the curious thing is you can also operate that in the reverse. So the computer also can operate your

brain basically, right? That's when it gets a little more scary, you know, and then

we are continuing with cyborgs and then we are all plugged into the internet and

eventually the internet and the world wide web is connecting then you have this

one singularity and the internet becomes self-conscious suddenly and then it's running us and we are

just living in this hive mind you know so the transhumanists like these scenarios and that's much

discussed in the bay area and then we have other things like driverless cars and all that.

And so what should we be thinking about that?

I'm not going to give you many more of these scenarios.

Perhaps most of you know more about that than I do.
