About the Speaker: Daniel De Haan is a Research Fellow in Natural Theology at the Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion and the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford. Before coming to Oxford he was a postdoctoral fellow working on the neuroscience strand of the Templeton World Charity Foundation’s Theology, Philosophy of Religion, and the Sciences project at the University of Cambridge. He has a doctorate in philosophy from the Catholic University of Leuven and University of St Thomas in Texas. His research focuses on philosophical anthropology and the sciences, natural theology, and the thought of Thomas Aquinas.

So I understand that one of the themes of the topics that you're engaging and thinking about is artificial intelligence AI. And so some of you were at a talk earlier by one of my colleagues, James Madden, who came and spoke to you about AI.

And so originally we had tried to figure out if there was a date for me to come earlier in September

and kind of give a kind of general approach to Thomas' philosophical anthropology,

and then connect that in with AI.

And so coming a little bit later in with some of the thinking that you've already done on this,

I'm going to do a slightly different kind of talk.

What does it mean to think?

And for my talk is basically into two parts. One of the things I think is challenging for this topic is

to do the kind of really sophisticated, detailed kind of arguments about the difference between human intelligence and artificial intelligence

really presupposes someone knows quite a bit about both.

And so you have to know quite a bit about programming and computing and things like that.
