It's 1963. On East 59th in Fifth in Manhattan, at the corner of Central Park, Marie

Catherine Oax is one of many hopeful young women who have responded to an advertisement.

Yes, it's true. Attractive young girls can make two to three hundred dollars a week at

the Fabulous New York Playboy Club.

Two hundred dollars is around 1800 today, and there are plenty of women in line with Marie.

Women like Jackie Net and Catherine Lee Scott, who we met in the previous episode.

And they're all looking for a glamorous, exciting, and well-paid new job.

But Marie is not really Marie. Her real name is Gloria Steinem.

Before she became a famous second-wave feminist, she's undercover at the New York Playboy Club.

At the audition, Steinem is nervous. She's 28, older than the age specified in the ad.

At any moment, she could be asked to provide ID that says she's Marie.

ID that doesn't exist.

The interviewer is indeed surprised.

She says Steinem doesn't look 24 at all. She actually looks much younger.

To my amazement, I passed right through and ended up in this costume that was so tight

that a man would have a cleavage.

Steinem is assigned a bunny mother, given the bunny Bible, and taught the famous bunny

dip.
