Welcome to the political scene. I'm Susan Glasser. This week, Liz Truss became the United

Kingdom's newest prime minister. Trust comes into office following a string of scandals in the

Conservative Party under her predecessor, Boris Johnson, an inheritance in the midst of a

bleak economic forecast, including talk of recession and a crisis in energy prices. And while she has

proven popular with the Conservative Party's most loyal members, that certainly does not ensure

success for the new Prime Minister with the wider British public.
