| 0:21.6 | We're doing a little Instagram Live. Did I mention that to you? Oh, it's on Instagram. See, I was looking for it on Twitter and I was looking for it on Snapchat and I was looking for it on Facebook. And I couldn't see any of it. No, no. I'm always a step ahead here. So we're going Instagram Live. So big shout out to those folks. |
| 0:18.3 | Today we're going to talk about how to network. That's right. Now, so this is actually something that I'm not that interested in. But we've gotten a lot of questions about it. And I do remember a time when as musicians, it's like, well, I'm practicing. I want to play. I want to get some gigs. |
| 0:54.9 | Now I need to network. |
| 0:55.9 | How do I meet people? How do I go to a jam session? So, you know, it's definitely an important part of the flow of what we do, right? Yeah, and it's funny that you say you're not that interested in it. Because I feel like you're really, really good at networking in general. Oh, thank you. No, but you, I think the social aspect of this music, like it or not, is a big part of it. So you have to, first of all, you have to make your face known to other people. You have to go out. Right. You have to go to gigs. You have to go to jam sessions. If you don't have a network of other musicians that you play with on a regular basis, go make some friends. |
| 1:28.9 | You know, go meet some people who are your peers, who are on your level as players, and |
| 1:34.4 | don't be a jerk to them. |
| 1:35.6 | Right, right, right. |
| 1:36.7 | You know, look them in the eye and tell them that you want to play music with them. |
| 1:41.7 | That's, I think that's step number one. |
| 1:43.3 | Yeah, and I guess just to clarify, I didn't mean I'm not interested. I'm actually very interested in the, the effect of networking with other musicians through this music. Yeah. I'm just, I'm not interested in thinking about it as a separate endeavor from kind of what naturally or organically, you know, hopefully comes natural to us |
| 2:03.1 | and organically as musicians. Like I have a natural, uh, whoa. No, that's okay. See, that's how |
| 2:08.9 | we do it. Little mic adjustments as we go. Yeah. Um, I have just a real affinity for, for, |
| 2:13.8 | for people that are into this music like you and all the good folks here and just, |
| 2:18.8 | it's jazz music has opened up a world of, of friends and enthusiasts that I would have |
| 2:25.8 | never met had it not been for the music. So I'm very grateful for that. So from that standpoint, |
| 2:30.0 | I don't look at it as like a calculating, I'm going to network so I can get this, because I've |
| 2:34.0 | gotten so much from the music and from the network of jazz and jazz musicians around the |
| 2:38.6 | world. |
