And today I'm excited to welcome on David Yeager, who's the author of 10 to 25, The Science of Motivating Young People, which is a USA Today bestseller. He is an experimental developmental psychologist and the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. And over the past 10 years, he has been

one of the top 0.1% most cited psychologists in the world. He also happens to be a former

middle school English teacher and K-8 PE coach for a school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which means

he comes fully battle-tested.

David, welcome to the podcast.

Yeah, thanks for having me.

Well, I really enjoyed this book.

There's a lot of different places we can go, but let's just start with the sort of problem

you're trying to solve with this book.

It really starts with the frustrations that many adults have.

So parents feel like they can't get their kids to listen to them.

Teachers feel like kids are more disengaged than they've ever been.

And bosses, I hear a lot about how they think this next generation in the workforce just doesn't want to work.

And I think that's frustrating for a lot of people because as parents,

we spend a lot of time trying to help our kids grow up right. And as bosses, we hired young people

because we have work to do. And so if we get that far where we've got someone, you know, in our

workplace ready to have responsibility and it seems like we can't rely on them,

then that really gets in the way of our happiness, our productivity, and so on.

And I think that's like the more local version of a bigger issue, that in general,

human beings are terrible at dealing with teenagers.

And it's something we've complained about throughout all of human history.

And I just feel like, what if we could solve that problem and not have it anymore? That would be
