Well, hello there. My name is Morgan Harper-Nichols. I'm an artist and a writer, and this is a space where I share words that I hope can make a little room for you to slow down and take a few deep breaths as you prepare for whatever lies ahead. Thanks for being here today. And now on to today's episode. When you are faced with an uncertain

0:28.4

situation, do you ever find yourself preparing for the worst case scenario? Even when things seem

0:35.6

hopeful, do you still find yourself thinking about everything that could go wrong?

0:41.3

Many of us are familiar with a sense of an impending catastrophe.

0:46.3

Our minds don't hesitate to create scenarios where everything goes sideways.

0:52.3

And maybe this sense of foreboding comes from past experiences

0:57.6

where many of us have become witnesses to what felt like the worst case scenario.

1:03.4

Perhaps we've had to deal with unimaginable loss or heartbreaking outcomes that we wouldn't

1:09.7

1:22.4

There will always be moments where we have to sit with the possibility of unwanted outcomes, and we will feel frustrated

1:30.2

by this mental loop, and we must remember to have grace and patience for ourselves. There is no shame

1:38.0

in having known this kind of heaviness in life. There is no shame in having to overcome these fears. In these moments, it is important

1:46.7

to remember that when your heart is ready and open, there is an opportunity to ask other

1:53.1

kinds of questions like this. What's the best possible outcome? What would I do today if I knew that everything was going to be

2:03.6

okay? What if the future could surprise me in a good way? How would that change my perspective?

2:13.2

If you've struggled with having hope for the future, it may take a little time to answer these questions.

2:19.6

And it's important to remember that this is perfectly okay.

2:24.4

You might not be able to lean into these questions every day or for every circumstance,

2:29.3

but what matters is that when you enter into them, you allow yourself to do so fully.

2:35.6

What matters is that you give yourself permission to come forth at any moment with a brand new perspective.
