Summary

I've wanted to have this important conversation for a while now to be a resource for you guys. I know so often we want to help loved ones through tough times but don't know how. We want to help, but feel helpless. In this episode I give concrete examples of ways you can help a loved one in a tough season of life. A lot of my opinions on the matter come from losing my Dad at 22 and what helped me personally. Also, just what I've learned in helping friends and family through depression, traumatic events, etc. I should've prefaced this that of course these are only my opinions and I would urge anyone struggling to seek professional help, or those of you in the helping supportive role to suggest seeking professional help as I touch on in this episode. I know how specific this episode is but I really hope it can help. Love you guys!

Hey everyone and welcome to this episode of Happy Hour. First of all, I miss you guys. Hi,

0:06.0

it's me, Gretchen. I just got so much good feedback from my last episode. It's just so nice to know

0:12.4

that I'm not alone in feeling like I'm living in fear sometimes or just worry in comparison,

0:21.0

feeling lost if I'm on the right path, being purposeful, all those things. And if you didn't

0:26.4

give the last episode a listen, I would recommend giving it a listen if any of that resonates with you.

0:31.8

But yeah, let's just settle in guys. This is a little bit of a heavier episode, I guess.

0:37.4

But I'm going to address it in the lightest way possible, easiest way possible. Because the point

0:43.8

of this episode is really just to be helpful. I'm sure you can tell by the title. And what I'm saying

0:48.5

cozy and I'm thinking specifically, if you can hear it by the way, I'm like, gold and retrieval puppy

0:54.2

Brody who's like laying underneath my feet right now, sleeping. He's probably missing

0:58.4

the whole time. Uh oh, now he has his caterpillar toy. If you can hear that, there's like construction

1:03.3

going on outside, but we're just keeping it real over here. Okay, I hope that doesn't have a

1:07.7

squeaker in it, Brody. But anyway, let's just start by saying I've had this episode topic on my

1:16.7

master list of ideas for my podcast episodes for a while now. It's been requested like many,

1:23.5

many times. And I think I know exactly why when a loved one is going through a hard time,

1:31.5

all you want to do is help, right? And yeah, at the same time, you feel, you feel very helpless.

1:37.7

And you know, those texts you get, like, let me know there's anything I can do if any of you have

1:42.6

been going through any sort of hard time because I mean, I can speak specifically to my experience

1:49.0

is obviously so might be biased in that way. But I think this episode, because honestly help people

1:55.4

that are just trying to be supportive of loved ones, friends, family members that are going through

2:00.9

like any hard time, really not just specifically grief or depression or anxiety or, you know,

2:07.8

I think it's sort of like any turbulent time difficult season in their life. And yeah,
