And then shit gets worse.

We lost Kobe Bryant this week.

And whether your favorite Kobe was number 8 or 24, whether you like the young so intense Kobe or the mature leader he became, you knew Kobe.

You know, we have thousands of athletes in countless sports, but few crossed the line

where you don't have to even like the sport to know who they are.

Earnhardt, Montana, Jordan, Magic, Bird, Tiger, Kobe, bigger-than-life icons that took

their sport outside of the sport itself.

Kobe had a dream as a kid, and he lived it. He had high SAT scores and killer grades, but went into the NBA after high school.

Degree in what? I know my destiny. I loved him for that.

I had the opposite problem. No SAT scores and the grades of a brain-dead gerbil. So I went into comedy. It worked out. I'm not even a basketball fan and I loved Kobe, you know, for his work ethic. Before games, he would get there four hours before game time and do a shoot drill by himself under the basket. 15 shots with each hand, then mid-court, then back to the three-point line, all four corners, and on and on and on.

So when the other team showed up for their warm-up, Kobe was gone.

But when he hit the court, he was deadly, the Black Mamba.

You know, they'd say genius is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.
