Self-trust is something that people think about all the time, you know, how to build a better connection with

0:05.6

themselves so that they can feel assured that no matter what happens in their life, that they'll be able to rise to

0:12.2

the occasion and manage. Any situation good or bad that comes to them, you know, a lot of times people only think

0:18.2

about self-trust in terms of negative situations, you know, whenever there's a problem in life for your plans or

0:25.5

expectations somehow get changed by external forces, people think, oh man, well this is something that's bad that's

0:32.4

happening to me, so I'm going to deal with it and that is one aspect. But of course the other aspect of self-trust is that to

0:40.3

trust yourself whenever things are going well, you know, like whenever things are good in your life, people can start

0:46.1

worrying that that goodness will go away, that can create anxiety. So trusting yourself to be able to manage and

0:53.6

keep good things good, keep good things going, you know, also of course whenever we find success or we're thriving

1:02.3

personally in some ways, what happens a lot of times is that we change, you know, and it's a very natural part of

1:09.0

that, it's because as our lives get better, as we change, as do our thoughts and how we feel and how we respond to

1:17.3

life. And so, you know, one of the things of trusting yourself to work with times when you're flourishing is being able to

1:26.3

stay clear-minded and, you know, humble and present and focused and self-aware in times of good as well. But, you know, one of the

1:36.7

things that is difficult about self-trust is one of those words that is nebulous, you know, has a lot of different

1:44.7

meanings to a lot of different people. And so, I'm just going to break that out a little bit real quick, you know, so it's kind of a

1:52.5

combination of several different things. When if we look at self-trust, we think of, you know, a lot of the things I just

1:59.9

described, but there's also a few other components to it. One of those is confidence. You know, confidence is a big part of

2:09.7

self-trust as well. And a lot of times when people talk about that, they're talking about a type of confidence. But when you think about what

2:17.7

confidence really is, it is really preparedness more than anything else. It's knowing what situations will arise in front of you, and then doing the work to be

2:31.7

prepared so that you know you will have the solution for whatever the problems are or whatever you might encounter going forward. Then we look at knowing, you know, knowing is another aspect of self-trust. Knowing is the kind of emotional version of confidence.

2:53.7

Confidence is a very intellectual pursuit and that you feel mentally prepared to proceed and engage with whatever the situation is at hand. Knowing is something that you feel inside.

3:07.7

It's the same thing, but it's feeling. It's feeling clear and strong and present and just prepared and stable to work with what arises on that level, as opposed to simply the intellectual level.
