We've been talking about carnivorous plants quite a bit this week, and as we ended

0:17.4

yesterday's show, we were talking about Nepenthi's, or the tropical pitcher plant.

0:21.6

And this is a category of carnivorous plants that Josh Brown, who's our guest this week

0:26.2

of predatory plants, is actively breeding and creating new cultivars of.

0:30.2

So I think, Josh, it would be interesting to start with just the general process.

1:15.2

and yet nobody is breeding them.

1:17.8

So the first part of it that makes it difficult is, these aren't easy plants to grow, they're

1:24.5

not easy plants to grow to maturity compared to, you know, apothos like we were talking

1:29.6

about.

1:30.6

They need some attention and they need a lot of time.

1:33.6

Most of them don't flower until they're five to fifteen years old.

1:39.9

So you need a very mature plant, making that even more difficult is each plant is either

1:46.4

a male or a female.
