Summary

In this very fun episode, Forrest and Elizabeth discuss how to get on the same team in a relationship. They explore how conditions of worth, masking, and developmental trauma can get in the way of showing up authentically, and how falling into common relationship roles can reinforce this. Elizabeth talks about how healthy anger can actually be a productive force in a relationship, and how relationships change when both members start prioritizing the other’s wants and needs. Other topics include “dating yourself,” embracing the slightly weirder version of who you are, and celebrating self-exploration. Key Topics:  1:48: Getting on the same team  3:34: “Conditions of worth,” and authenticity 16:13: Vulnerability in relationships 25:38: Wielding anger effectively 38:05: Fairness, and honoring your partner’s needs 42:49: Dating yourself 47:35: Celebrating self exploration 53:57: Changing our relationship with our parts 01:04:30: Recap Support the Podcast: We're on Patreon! I feel still, you know, the whispers of the ephemeral seat of my therapist role.

0:34.4

So I'm coming in hot.

0:35.8

Well, the ephemeral set. I wasn't expecting to start with the ephemeral seat of the therapist role, but I'm glad that we did. It kind of, it lingers for a few hours, you know, after you physically get out of the seat. Is it like a scent or? It's, you know. It's a wa. It's a wa. I don't want to know if it's a sense. It might be the scent of sweat.

And like, I mean, at least for me, when I do coaching work and coaching work, the work that I do is less intense than what you do where you're doing like hardcore travel work with people.

Everybody likes to laugh because I have a somatic therapist,

1:18.0

You wish.

1:27.4

Like, it's a, but it's a very physical, like, demanding emotional job. And when I think you're like really in it,

1:29.8

which you're experiencing some sitting with coaching folks,

1:33.6

your body is a part of that ride.

1:35.8

And I mean, man, there have been times when I'm sitting there

1:38.8
