Hey, good morning. I'm Patricia Murphy. It's Monday. This is Seattle now. It's the first week

of the new year. And if you haven't made a resolution yet, it's never too late. We'll get into

the psychology of successful resolutions and goal setting in a minute,

but first, let's get you caught up.

A new year means new laws. Here are a few changes in 2026 you should know about. Your next

driver's license or ID card can have your blood type on it

for an extra $2, if you like. Closed captioning will be required at movie theaters for a certain

number of showings or by request. And plastic bags are going to cost you 12 cents instead of

eight. New City Attorney Erica Evans officially takes her oath of office today. The ceremony

will be at noon at City Hall. This comes after Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson was sworn in late last week.

Councilmember Eddie Lynn is the other Seattle City election winner from November. He was sworn in

back in early December. And an update on flood

recovery here in Washington. More of Highway 2 is open now. Governor Bob Ferguson announced

last week the section from Sky Comish to Stevens Pass would open yesterday. The 50-mile stretch was

closed for more than three weeks following flood damage. The reopening is a relief for ski

resorts and other businesses depending on visitors this time of year. There's no timeline yet
