So if you've gone out into the world at all, these days, you've probably seen all the help-wanted

signs.

I saw one at a pretty nice restaurant the other day here in D.C. and it said, we're hiring

busboys, servers, cooks, hosts, and dishwashers.

Absolutely no experience necessary. And I was thinking,

how is this place even open? It's a wild time. Within the last year and a half, we've seen

punishingly high numbers of people who can't find a job. And that's improved a lot,

but there are still 10 million job openings and 7.5 million unemployed workers. The pandemic has

pushed some people out of jobs and sent other people totally rethinking what kind of work

they're willing to do. Just like this week's listener, he's trying to make a career pivot for the

first time in his adult life, and it's been kind of harrowing so far.
