How technology has shaped protests in Iran.

Saturday marks one year since the death of Masa Amini, the young woman arrested by the

Islamic Republic of Iran's morality police for allegedly violating its strict dress code

for women.

Protests that started at Amini's funeral quickly spread across the country.

Iranians have depended on messaging apps and social media to share information and

try to keep safe, but staying connected hasn't been easy, according to Shahran Nooroozi and

Reza Razi Nuri.

They're with the US-based nonprofit United for Iran, which develops online resources

for the people there.

The main way that use of technology among activists and I'd say also the general population

has changed is the number of circumvention tools everyone now have to have on their

phone because in response to the massive protests last year, the regime pretty much reduced

the quality of the internet and we now see that their vision of isolating Iran's internet

from the world has been materialized to a higher degree.

It's a challenge for people to connect to the internet and sometimes they have to test

pens of different apps to find one that works.

Also, I guess something gets more important in the last year and that is cyber security

information because now this is the main tool, one of the most important tools that people

inside the country like Iran are using to fight against racism, so now the information
