I'm half Japanese and half Jamaican.

I'm Filipino. I'm a Cambodian nun.

I don't know. I say so, yeah, I say a lot of, but I'm Indonesian.

So yeah.

What drives you do that?

Because nobody really knows what Indonesia is.

So whenever I feel like not giving people small talk, like, oh my God, where is that?

What do you guys speak? I hate those questions. So I'm just like, yeah, I'm Filipino.

We often have different views of our parents than the outside world does.

We know them as our fathers and mothers.

They're the people who nurtured and taught us.

And as we age and get to the stage of life our parents were in when we were kids,

there's a reckoning. Like, how did they do all that? Or gee, I guess I'm an adult now.

And wild stories you hear about your parents' younger days can be at odds with the view we have of

them as the responsible people who put food on the table

and buttoned you up for school in a cold winter morning. But yeah, they're still people. And they

had lives before you ever showed up. Dahlia Beda just learned a secret long held by her father.
