This is the 10% Happier Podcast. I'm Dan Harris.

0:18.9

Hey gang, today we're going to challenge the way you think about stress. That word, stress,

0:24.4

has negative connotations for pretty good reasons. Stress is often what kills us in the end.

0:30.8

It corrods the mind and the body. You want to avoid it as much as possible. Except there are certain kinds of stress that we actually need.

0:40.1

It's what my guest today calls good stress.

0:44.5

My guest's argument is that many aspects of modern life are making us sick,

0:49.9

our chronic need for comfort, our sedentary lifestyles, our constant feeding.

0:56.1

1:19.7

And that led him to do a deep dive not only into his lifestyle, but also into the science

1:25.5

1:26.6

So he's got a new book and it's called

1:28.1

Good Stress, the benefits of doing hard things. Aside from being an author, Jeff is also the

1:33.5

CEO of a company called Commune, which is a masterclass platform for well-being, and he's the host

1:39.5

of the Commune podcast. Just to say, we're now in the last week of our month-long series, which we call

1:46.0

Get Fit Sainly. As with every episode this month, this episode comes with a bespoke guided meditation

1:52.7

for my friend, the great Dharma teacher, Karalai. Today's meditation is all about how to make a radical

1:58.9

and counterintuitive move.

2:01.7

Instead of your habitual move of either being overwhelmed by stress or pretending it's not there,

2:07.4

can you actually let your stress in mindfully?
