Summary

Coronavirus cases and hospitalizations are surging, particularly in areas that had been largely spared in the spring. One big question now is if hospitals are better prepared for this spike and if they will be able to continue providing elective services. Dan discusses what hospitals have, and what they still need, with Lloyd Dean, CEO of CommonSpirit Health, one of America's largest operators of hospitals and health clinics.

Stocks are down, the Texas vote total is up, and we're focused on how hospitals will handle

0:15.5

the new COVID surge. Bend the curve. Remember that line from back in March and April? The basic idea was that

0:26.4

COVID-19 might spread so fast that it would overwhelm hospitals, forcing healthcare workers to make

1:22.6

this time around with the CEO of one of America's largest hospital chains.

That conversation in 15 seconds.

We're joined now by Lloyd Dean, CEO of Common Spirit Health, which operates over 140 hospitals

1:40.3

and another 700 healthcare sites.

1:43.3

If we are hitting another surge, from an operations

1:46.7

perspective, what are the big lessons you learned from the spring that you think could make

1:52.3

things run at least a bit more smoothly this fall?
