whim and generation. And it means that I am tempted come 12 o'clock today to do something a little bit

silly. There is a Scandinavian politician who has just spent seven hours as Prime

Minister of her country, which prompts me to wonder whether you've ever had a job that was

even more short-lived than that. No prizes for historic listeners to the program, predicting

which anecdotes I will be wheeling out should we decide to turn our attention to that tale

a little later in the program. I also like the Amazon story for a whole heap of reasons,

the Extinction Rebellion protesters today blocking Amazon depots on so-called Black Friday,

causing travel chaos. But the role Amazon plays in our lives intrigues me. Do you remember when Tesco

was taking over the world? I don't know. Probably most eight groups will remember that. There was a time

when it felt as if Tesco were going to end up being like something out of Doctor Who. You know,

they were going to be tentacles, Tesco tentacles would extend into every single corner of our lives.

They've got an insurance company now.

We'd come on the radio in the morning.

They've just launched an undertakers or something like that.

And then it almost got too big and it began to retract again.

I wonder whether Amazon is going to defy that rule about there being a tipping point.

They're being a limit to just how enormous a single

conglomerate can become. And is that a bad thing? Is that necessarily a bad thing for society?
