Summary

Pastor J.D. shares helpful tips to structure quiet time with God and reminds listeners that It’s more important to find a rhythm that works for them than to do it “the right way.”

A glimpse inside this episode:

* Pastor J.D.'s Personal Method: 15-15-15

* 15 minutes of Bible reading
* 15 minutes of prayer
* 15 minutes of devotional, Scripture memorization, etc.

* ACTS method of praying

* Adoration
* Confession
* Thanksgiving
* Supplication

* Prayer helps

* Paul Miller's A Praying Life
* Notecards, journaling, going for walks, etc.

* Gospel Prayer from Gospel

* In you, there is nothing I could do to make you love me more; nothing I have done that makes you love me less.
* You are all I need today for everlasting joy.
* As you have been to me, so I will be to others.
* As I pray, I’ll measure your compassion by the cross and your power by the resurrection.

* Start where you are!

* Don’t get overwhelmed.
* If you aren’t doing anything at all, start with 5 or 10 minutes. Don’t let what others are doing intimidate you from just starting.

* It’s more important that you find a rhythm that works for you than to do it “the right way.” To paraphrase a friend of mine, “I like my way of meeting with God better than your way of not meeting with him.”

So this week folks want to know how do you structure your quiet

0:39.4

time? I mean, what is your regular rhythm? What are you doing to spend time with God? How do you

0:44.0

structure your quiet time? Yeah, that's a great and just a very practical question,

0:47.1

because I have found that the quality of your time with God determines a lot about the quality

of your spiritual life. And I need daily a time that I can

0:55.0

maybe it's one of the biggest things to point out. It's just you need to have a time with God,

0:59.9

a time where you can recalibrate, a time where you can meet with him. I think one of the ways

1:04.4

you've got to think about this is it's less important to find the right way as if there's a

1:09.6

right way and a wrong way. And it's more about just meeting with God.

I remember when I was here, my dad explained this.

From the time I've been a kid, I could remember getting up early in the morning and four or five a.m.

And I knew exactly where to find my dad.

1:23.8

And he told me one time, he said, I didn't always do my quiet time.

1:26.5

He says, I made a commitment

at this, after hearing the pastor preach on it. He said, and I, he says, I woke up like an hour

early the next morning. And he said, why am I up an hour early? And he said, the Holy Spirit just whispered

1:38.3

in my heart. I was so excited to meet with you that, you know, I just had to wake you up early in it. It just emphasized to me that

1:45.0

this is a time to meet with God, not just to read the Bible, not to do a Bible study, not just to go
