0:43.0	Have you ever heard the phrase border bullies? It's a phrase that a pastor I knew used to use, where it essentially described those times when you are doing what God has called you to do,
0:57.5	and the people around you misunderstand you and even question you.
1:02.6	They question your motives or they criticize the way that you're doing it, and they try to shut you down.
1:08.8	He called those people border bullies.
1:14.0	And if that's ever been your experience,
1:19.9	then this next part of John's gospel might feel a little familiar. Today, we're going to hear what happened after Jesus healed the man at the pool of Bethesda and how that one moment
1:25.6	stirred up not just amazement in what happened, but also opposition.
1:30.7	And so it wasn't just about a healing. We recognize that it now becomes about authority and what
1:37.7	it truly means to listen to God's voice, even when there are border bullies. And so I'm reading
1:43.5	today from John chapter 5, we're
1:45.4	finishing out the chapter verses 16 through 47. So because Jesus was doing these things on the
1:53.3	Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him. In his defense, Jesus said to them,
1:59.2	My father is always at work to this very day, and I too am working.
2:04.8	For this reason, they tried all the more to kill him. Not only was he breaking the Sabbath,
2:09.6	but he was even calling God his own father, making himself equal with God. Jesus gave him this answer.
2:20.4	Very truly, I tell you, the son can do nothing by himself.
2:26.6	He can only do what he sees his father doing, because whatever the father does, the son also does.
2:33.3	For the father loves the son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these so that you will be amazed.
2:36.5	For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom
