Two years ago this month, we sold our house in Georgia, packed up our Kia Soul with a one-year-old

and two-year-old in the back seat, and started driving west. At the time, Vince looked at me

and said, isn't this the sort of thing

you're supposed to do after college with a couple of buddies, not at 40, with two kids?

We arrived in East Palo Alto, California on a Saturday night, and the next morning we gathered

with the house church that meets in the front yard of the place where we were staying, and actually

where we still live now two years later. You could refer to our church as a house church, but it's not about where we were staying and actually where we still live now two years later. You could

in a house. We used to meet under a tent in the front yard. Now we meet in a garage. But probably the

best way to put it is that it's a family church. It's small and messy and raw and real, and we're

striving to live life together on a daily basis.

On that first Sunday, our pastor Peter asked us to introduce ourselves. And I don't think I had

planned to, but in that small setting, I felt comfortable just opening up and sharing what we had

been through and the baggage that we were arriving with. There were only a dozen of us or so

who were there.
