Come Cliff May, the present and founder of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy's,

writing most recently a column in Washington Times, about genocide. That term is thrown around so loosely these days. We need to focus

exactly on genocide. Once upon a time this had bite now. Cliff a very good evening to you a definition of genocide

that connects to our learning about it in the 20th century here in the 21st century we need to reestablish what it means.

Yes, you're right, you know, there's a little bit of poking around a little bit of research on this.

I'm interestingly I found that Winston Churchill, you always find something

interesting Churchill said about almost that he subject that early in World War II,

he understood the concept of the deliberate and systematic destruction of

an entire people.

And he said that's a crime without a name and that was about

1941 that he said that about three years later in 1944 Raphael Limkin he was a

Polish-born Jewish lawyer. He led to the US and he did a number of interesting things including advising the war department and he decided that crime without a name should have a name.

And so he came up with one.

He coined name.

And the name that he coined was genocide.

And what is that?

It's a combination of Genos, is the Greek word, for race or tribe, and side, the Latin

for killing, homicide, that sort of thing.
