House Speaker Mike Johnson questioned Republican Congressman Thomas Massey's motivations

and teaming up with the Democrats to push for a House vote requiring the Justice Department

to release all federal documents related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

They kick and scream and bite their own colleagues. I'm not going to address anybody individually, but I'll tell you that some here are much more frustrating than others. There's a small, small tiny handful, but one in particular who's giving me lots of consternation. I don't understand. I don't understand Thomas Massey's motivation. I really don't. I don't know how his mind works. Massey told reporters this morning that Trump's handling of the matter is, quote, eroding his base and that the issue could cost Republicans' support in the midterms.

Eleven Republicans in counting are supporting the measure, and if all Democrats vote for it, lawmakers would have enough support to go around

Johnson, who signaled he doesn't want Congress releasing the files to come to the floor.

However, the House will leave for its August recess a day earlier than initially planned,

as Republican leaders hope to sap the momentum behind the measure.

Nearly 2,000 National Guard troops are set to be called up to help at immigration detention

centers across multiple states.

That's according to a U.S. official and a source familiar with the planning.

Both sources said the troops would be placed on Title 32 status, which means they'll be under

the command of their governors,
