Do you know what the real skill of decorating is? It's when you one day decide to work on a room and you get some of your old stuff in

there and you get to buy something new and a couple things from Target that you like and

you put it all in you're like oh it doesn't look good now what do I do that is the skill of

decorating what do you do when it doesn't look right why do some things look

amazing and other things look

hideous. There is a reason.

Maybe like me, you struggle and you just feel like if you had more money, you could create a home you love.

Or perhaps your home is not meeting your needs. You want to have that inviting home that feels peaceful and open to friends and family.

Maybe you're just confused about your decorating style and you end up buying random decor

that just doesn't work.

Well, Michael and Smith, she's the author and founder of the Nesting Place. She has a new book coming out called House Rules and she's going to share some of those with us today.

She gives me advice on how to update my kitchen since I'm not going to be renovating it anytime soon.

Just on a limited budget, little things you can do and advice on throw pillows and

lamps and wallpaper and buying new couches. She says that decorating takes time to really learn more about

yourself and what you need for your home. And then it comes down to building

confidence and making those big and small decisions that are going to lead to a

home you love and is functional.

And of course, she reminds us that it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful.
