of America, folks, at the tail end of hour one, I told you about my theory about Democrats and Republicans and how I don't envy any Republican that would take the mantle of Speaker.

I told you about how the Democrats are a party of they the people and Republicans are party of we the people as the founders intended.

You know, because you actually care about what the founder said and the Constitution and things like that, but I digress.

We've got to talk about the parliamentary process and procedure, which on its face, as I speak,

probably doesn't sound that exciting to you, but it is, and you need to know about what's

on deck and what you need to be tracking

this Friday. So here is this situation with House Speaker Mike Johnson. The new Congress

convenes at noon, Eastern Standard Time on January 3, 2025.

And Mike Johnson, Republican from Louisiana, might, I say might, struggle to secure the Speaker's

gavel because the House of Representatives has a very, very razor-thin majority.

You see, there is a thing for the Speaker of the House, the majority requirements.

So what that means is that the Speaker must win an outright majority of votes from members voting for a specific candidate.

So in other words, a simple plurality won't suffice.

So think back to Kevin McCarthy and Hakeem Jeffries.

Kevin McCarthy was getting 2.15.

Hakeem Jeffries was getting 2.14.

Folks, that ain't going to cut it because you need to have an outright majority of members in the House of Representatives.

So the current House composition, and here is why this matters, 434 members in the United States House of Representatives,

with one vacancy after Matt Gates, Republican from Florida,

resigned to pursue an attorney general role that ultimately didn't work out.
