Paul recess a beginner became known all over the world for his heroism,

preventing hundreds of tutsis from being slaughtered in the 1994 Rwanda genocide.

He rose to fame after the Hollywood movie Hotel Rwanda in 2004 and two years later was awarded

the highest civilian award of the United States, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

During the Rwandan genocide in 1994, he risked his own life to shelter more than 1,000

fellow Rwandans targeted for murder. His life reminds us of our moral duty to confront evil

in all its forms. The United States honors Paul recess a beginner for his spirit and bravery

in defending and caring for his fellow man.

Now the government in Kigali has released him from jail. He'd begun serving 25 years on

terrorism charges. Our Africa correspondent Catherine Bira-Hanga, who's in Nairobi, has been telling me more.
