Got a question for you. Should Biden and Harris attend Donald Trump's inauguration in January?

It's not an easy question to answer. I don't think it is. It used to be, it sure as hell used to be

an easy question to answer. Participating in the ceremony, the peaceful transition of power,

was a beautiful tradition up until Donald Trump launched an insurrection in January of 2021.

It was an important signal to send to Americans that even if your candidate lost, all is not lost.

The country will continue. You can still love your neighbor or your crazy uncle.

Everything will be okay.

But Trump destroyed that norm.

He launched scores of frivolous lawsuits to try to overturn the election results.

He sent a mob to attempt to prevent Congress from certifying the election results.

And then he refused to attend Joe Biden's inauguration. Instead, he pouted at Marlago. So with that in mind, what should Biden and Harris do now? To attend or not to

attend? That really is the question. I think there are strong arguments for both moves.

On the one hand, Democrats have argued rightfully now for years that they are the party that

respects democracy.

They respect rules and norms.

And while you may not like it, Trump legitimately won the 2024 election.

So they could look like frauds if they don't attend his inauguration and show that they are still committed to everything that they said they were.

They would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are indeed the party of tradition and civility and norms.

That is a compelling case.

However, there's a part of me that thinks if tradition and civility and norms got us here,

got us a second Trump term where an alleged sexual predator will be the nation's top cop and the entire cabinet is filled with just who knows who?

How good are those values traditional?
