0:27.2	Veterans Day is a day to honor those who have served in our country's military
0:31.2	and to give thanks for their sacrifices.
0:35.0	A veteran is someone who has served in the U.S. military, which is now made of six parts.
0:40.1	The Navy, the Army, the Marine Corps, the Air Force, the Coast Guard, and the newest branch
0:45.6	created in 2019, the Space Force.
0:49.1	But why does the holiday always fall on November 11th?
0:52.5	Something really important happened on that day way back in
0:56.0	1918. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marked the end of World War I in
1:04.7	1918. The war ended when the two sides agreed to an armistice, which means a truce that ended the fighting.
1:12.7	Wow.
1:13.8	One year later, the day was celebrated as Armistice Day.
1:16.8	After almost 50 years, in 1954, President Eisenhower changed the name of the holiday to Veterans
1:23.0	Day, and we've been recognizing it that way ever since.
